Difference Between Original Dahua and Dahua-OEM Products?

Question from eBay customer RE: Dahua NVR4208-8P-4K-OEM:  Dahua OEM 8-Channel 4K H.265 NVR: 8-port PoE, 12MP, 192Mbps, VGA/HDMI, 2x SATA The photograph shows the Dahua emblem on the front of the NVR. Will the items being shipped have this Dahua emblem and the Dahua model numbers and serial numbers on them? Will Dahua permit me to download and update the firmware, if I choose? Will the Dahua U.S.A. warranty and support apply? Is the firmware in english? Is the format PAL or NTSC? Is it U.S. power compatible?   Our answer: Hello, Thank you for submitting this question. Custom Video Security is an authorized Dahua dealer, and we work very closely with them. This product is not from Dahua USA, but rather from an OEM provider. It carries a 3-year warranty. The Dahua logo is not going to be on this product. Original Dahua carries a 5-year warranty with access to Dahua tier-2 support, and does include the Dahua logo. Your first call for support should be to us, as we can usually resolve all issues without calling Dahua USA. We have recently sold a number of NVRs and hundreds of IP cameras to the University of NE, and they have […]

Intercom Security Camera Workaround for Access Control using Milestone XProtect

Option 1) Here is a PDF for an option that is similar to an Aiphone door intercom. Neither are compatible with Milestone XProtect, but I know Aiphone is the standard in the industry and carries a higher price tag. And the Comelit (Italian company, has an office in So Cal, good support) was recommended to me by a good installer. Their unit has an analog video output, which can connect to an encoder, which can then connect to Milestone XProtect. It has a relay built-in, which would connect to a door strike. The Comelit unit provides up to 1A of power for the door strike. The IP version of the Comelit cannot be used because it is not Onvif compliant. Option 2) Use a camera with 2-way audio support and alarm I/Os, and ensure audio compatibility with Milestone XProtect Professional or higher in order to use Milestone events/outputs. In the XProtect SmartClient, you would create the I/O event, then drag in an Overlay Button so they can lock/unlock the door after seeing/talking to the person. (This would only be available on a Windows PC.) You could trigger the output from the Web Client or Milestone Mobile though if you want to […]

How to Choose a Video Surveillance System in 2017

By Raymond Shadman Custom Video Security 310-370-9500 x1   1. Define objective. What do you want to see, in what level of detail, and how far away? How many megapixels and what focal lengths are required to achieve viewing objectives? Are objects moving? If so, what size are they with respect to the field of view, and how fast are they moving? How many cameras will be on the system? (Most recorders or VMSes support a maximum number of cameras.) Will more cameras be added in the future? Are there multiple locations, and if so does the corporate headquarters want administrative control of each location? If so, would there be a network admin who would want to apply modifications to each location’s server in bulk using Federated Architecture (Milestone XProtect Expert or Corporate)? Will the system be recording on a schedule, continuously, on motion detection, or both?   2. System design. How many clients will be viewing the cameras simultaneously, and from inside or outside the network? (If a lot of clients viewing multiple cameras at a time on a Milestone Expert or Corporate system, a separate Mobile Server should be used.) Are clients PCs or Macs? Are mobile clients Android, iOS, […]
