Hard Drives 3 years. Monitors 1 year. 1-year advance replacement warranty when you buy from Custom Video Security.  Direct tech support from Dahua to low-voltage installers and to the end-user. Very wide product line including: ePoE (converts coax lines to use IP cameras at the lowest cost in the industry; or triples the distance of IP without any need for repeaters/extenders). Starlight cameras see color at nighttime with minimal ambient lighting. Video: https://youtu.be/NaFHmwXI6Zk?t=5. Identify skin color, hair color, clothing color, vehicle color, etc. So much more effective than traditional IR cameras. The levels of Dahua’s starlight are attached. I recommend Starlight+ if you may require viewing in very dark or pitch-black scenes. Or Night Color if you don’t need or don’t want infrared. Night Color cameras have no infrared, which means you can’t use them in pitch-black darkness, but they see at nighttime with minimal ambient lighting like it’s daytime. They have the highest nighttime performance […]

Intercom Security Camera Workaround for Access Control using Milestone XProtect

Option 1) Here is a PDF for an option that is similar to an Aiphone door intercom. Neither are compatible with Milestone XProtect, but I know Aiphone is the standard in the industry and carries a higher price tag. And the Comelit (Italian company, has an office in So Cal, good support) was recommended to me by a good installer. Their unit has an analog video output, which can connect to an encoder, which can then connect to Milestone XProtect. It has a relay built-in, which would connect to a door strike. The Comelit unit provides up to 1A of power for the door strike. The IP version of the Comelit cannot be used because it is not Onvif compliant. Option 2) Use a camera with 2-way audio support and alarm I/Os, and ensure audio compatibility with Milestone XProtect Professional or higher in order to use Milestone events/outputs. In the XProtect SmartClient, you would create the I/O event, then drag in an Overlay Button so they can lock/unlock the door after seeing/talking to the person. (This would only be available on a Windows PC.) You could trigger the output from the Web Client or Milestone Mobile though if you want to […]

Hybrid DVRs and the Benefits of using Megapixel/HD Security Cameras

A hybrid DVR is a DVR that can accept more than one type of video signal. The three most common video signals on the market today are analog, HD-SDI, and IP. It is advantageous to have a hybrid DVR for many reasons, the most significant of which is to utilize existing analog cameras, while adding megapixel cameras to areas that need more detailed monitoring with clear digital zoom-in capabilities. HD cameras can also be used to minimize analog camera count, as they have more pixels and can cover large areas of real estate with a minimal number of cameras. ANALOG CAMERAS Analog, a closed-circuit television system (abbreviated by CCTV), is the traditional video signal, which has been in use for decades, and is typically carried over coaxial cable. In some cases people use Cat5 network cable to send video and even audio and power over network cable with the use of baluns, which are adapters that convert the camera’s BNC connector to RJ45 for Cat5, or to twisted pair, which is common for video-only signals. The typical distance limit for coaxial cable is between 250 to 450 feet, depending on the quality of the cable. With baluns and Cat5 cable, […]
