Dahua Video Doorbell Intercom Access System for Single-Family Home or Office

The Dahua Video Intercom for single-family homes or office suites is an economical and effective solution.

Here are the available options for single-family or office suites:

You would still need to connect the power supply for the wireless option.

Flush-mount and surface-mount back-boxes are available for wired solutions.

  • The mobile apps (for iOS and Android) are compatible with the Villa Outdoor Stations; not with the Apartment Outdoor Stations. Mobile apps allow the tenant(s) to remotely unlock the door from anywhere with 3G/4G/Wi-Fi signal on their mobile device. The intercom will ring the indoor monitors and mobile apps simultaneously so that the first available user can address the caller and decide whether to grant access.
  • The indoor monitors are not required, but they are ideal if a dedicated indoor monitor is desired in a common area such as a home’s kitchen or an office’s reception area.

The current indoor monitor options are:

  • DHI-VTH1550CH (IP monitor, 7 inch, white)
  • DHI-VTH1550CHW-2 (2-wire monitor, 7 inch, white, ideal if running cable within the units is difficult)
  • DHI-VTH5221D (wireless IP monitor, 7 inch, black, ideal if there is a solid Wi-Fi signal throughout the units. This can be mounted from a wall or can sit on top of a table, as long as there is power nearby.)
  • DHI-VTH1660CH (IP monitor, 10 inch, black)

In order to record video and keep logs, you will need an SD card for each monitor on which you want to record the calls. The VTH devices (indoor monitors) record video and audio as the call takes place. So if you were to answer the call on one of the VTH units without an SD card, it would not record the call. Please note, The VTH1550CH (7-inch) can only handle one micro SD card up to 32GB, while the VTH1660CH (10-inch) can handle one micro SD card up to 128GB.

To scale beyond just one door, you cannot use the wireless DHI-VTO211D-WP.

Update as of November 2018:

the Multi-family/tenant modular VTO2000A-C-OEM supports the optional modules for fingerprint, Mifare prox card reader, PIN keypad, and additional 3-unit/tenant programmable buttons, but the genuine/USA version does not support any additional expansion modules. Up to 9 total modules can be used with each VTO-2000A-C-OEM. The clear advantage to using this OEM unit for single-family applications is the extra modules. The clear advantage to using this OEM unit for multi-family/tenant is the mobile app support.

The various modules and accessories of this unit can be selected and configured here.

Update as of February 2019:

Q1. Can the multi-unit intercoms be programmed with tenant names, dial out, and relay?
A1. Not currently. Can only dial by the unit number. It does not support names or dial out to a phone

Q2. Can the system remotely unlock a door strike?
A2. Yes, when using the VTO1210C-X, from the indoor monitor only. On the smaller Dahua intercom systems, the VTO2000A, VTO2000A-2 and VTO2111D-WP, can remotely unlock a door from the mobile app.

Q3. Can these intercoms call a landline inside each unit, or can it only call the indoor monitor?
A3. They currently do not support landline connectivity; they can only call the indoor monitor. In the future, the larger multi-unit intercoms will support PBX connection to call a SIP phone.

Q4. Can the intercom system be programmed by a PC?
A4. Yes, currently the management is performed via Smart PSS software, and the setup and configuration is via a web browser on a PC. The final part of the setup is performed on the indoor monitor.

Q5. Is the VTO2000A-X Modular Intercom UL-Listed?
A5. No, the UL60950-1 rating is slated for the end of 2019-Q3.

Update as of June 2019:

Ideal for the disabled or elderly to remotely unlock the doors to let people outside: when the Mobile App is open, tap the lock button in the bottom-left. Tap the first lock button on the left of the pop-up window, and that will unlock the door. Nobody has to call for this to work. Additionally, they could use an easy one-button Push-to-Exit button, which is also included with the VTO2000A.
