Use IP wireless network cameras, or a combination of wired IP network cameras with a pair of wireless access points, to install cameras without wires going back to the main building's switch. Typical applications would be installing cameras in a parking lot, installing cameras on a nearby building, or installing cameras in the main building without the ability to run wires. For a parking lot or a nearby building, we recommend using a wireless bridge solution with wired network cameras. For cameras within the main building, or for residential applications, it would be suitable to use wireless network cameras with built-in wireless such as the ones shown on this page.
In the diagram below, a Wireless Bridge is created between two buildings with line-of-sight using two Wireless Access Points. The 5GHz frequency is ideal for areas where 2.4GHz devices are prevalent, so as not to have any wireless interference. Outdoor network cameras can be powered using a PoE switch, which can then transmit the cameras' data wirelessly back to the main building's network, as long as there is line of sight. Typical wireless range is in excess of a mile.
